The Volunteer Program

Removing dinosaur bones from the desert rock is difficult but exciting work, and the paleontologists rely on help from volunteers. The Desert Museum runs a volunteer program for individuals and groups interested in participating in excavations, or cleaning and preparing bones in the lab, for one week.

One of the most successful aspects of the program involves students and professors from Fitchburg State College near Boston. Yearly since 1994, they have traveled to Saltillo for one week to help the paleontologists recover dinosaur bones.
