Located on the Pacific coast of central Mexico, the state of Jalisco is home to a large and prolific
art community, one with a wide range of artistic expressions, from traditional to modern, fine to abstract.
This documentary photography project is about the people and institutions that support,
promote and produce art in Jalisco. It is a group of photographs and text that collectively tell a story.
Like the unseen forces that drive the wind, this is a story about the forces that determine the directions
and movements of art.
These photographs represent only a portion of an artistic community that plays an important role in
Mexican art. Most of the people you see in these photos were either born in Jalisco, moved there,
or received training there. But all find Jalisco inspirational for producing, promoting, showing or
performing art.
If art is a reflection of the society where it originates, this project is as much about
Jalisco as it is about art.
