Guadalajara International Film FestivalHeld annually since 1985, the Guadalajara International Film Festival is an important cinematic event.
The object of the Festival is to promote short and feature-length Mexican films, and those from other
Spanish-speaking countries. It also shows films in other languages. Events include exhibitions, contests
and tributes that take place in Guadalajara and other cities in Jalisco. |

Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL)The FIL is the largest Spanish-language book fair in the world. More than 1,000 exhibitors participate
annually, including Mexican and foreign publishers from approximately 30 countries. Every year, a different
country is the guest of honor. Events also include tributes, book presentations and signings. |

May Cultural FestivalIn 1998 the May Cultural Festival, primarily a fine arts event, initiated from a joint effort
between the Jalisco Secretary of Culture, the City Governments of the Guadalajara metropolitan area,
and the private sector. The Festival, envisioned to occur as much in the state capital,
Guadalajara, as in other cities in Jalisco, has been held annually since. It includes art
shows in closed venues, public plazas and open spaces for large events, all with representatives
of local and international fine arts. |

Mariachi and Charrería International MeetingAfter many generations, the mariachi is still one of the most recognized symbols of Mexican culture.
The mariachi originated in Cocula, Jalisco in 1695. |
