Carlos Álvarez del Castillo
President of the Art Council of the Journalism and Graphic Arts Museum, Guadalajara; president of the
Art Council of the May Cultural Festival; and president of the Jesús Álvarez del Castillo Foundation,
which dedicates its library, newspaper library and collections to the dissemination of the arts.
Álvarez is collaborating in the feasibility study of building the Guggenheim Museum in Guadalajara,
and in the construction of the Third Millennium Arches.

Aurelio López Rocha
Businessman, president and promoter of the feasibility project for the construction of a Guggenheim
Museum in Guadalajara, López has supported several artistic projects in Mexico through the Cultural
Promotion Foundation of Guadalajara, such as the OPA (office for promotion of art), and the Art
Center of the Guadalajara World Trade Center. He has assembled an important private art collection
with works from important national and foreign artists.
Raúl Padilla López
Founder and president of the Guadalajara International Film Festival; founder and president of the
Guadalajara International Book Fair; founder of the Julio Cortazar Lecture Series, in which writers
like Nobel laureate José Saramago have participated; promoter and president of the Fund for
Construction of the University Cultural Center; promoter of the Diana Theater; promoter of the
construction of the New Public Library of the State of Jalisco; among other activities.

Jorge Vergara Madrigal
In addition to his successful carrier in the business world, Vergara has been a promoter of art and
culture in Jalisco. He has supported art grants and contests through the Omnilife Cultural Foundation.
Vergara also has participated in music, funding his own record company, and in cinema, with
his own production company.

Collectors and curators
Patrick Charpenel
A philosopher by training, Charpenel has done extensive work as a curator.
He has worked a number of important exhibitions in different venues in Mexico and outside,
among them the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City. He also publishes
reviews in specialized magazines.

Smoke Signals (Señales de Humo) Radio Show
Hosted and directed by Alfredo Sánchez, the radio show Smoke Signals is a cultural program on the
University of Guadalajara Radio Network. It has been broadcast since 2002 throughout the Guadalajara
metropolitan area. Programs include interviews with artists of all medias, from dancers and
sculptors to writers and photographers.
Alfredo Sánchez studied communication at ITESO (Technical Institute) in Guadalajara.
He is a composer, musician and cultural journalist, and has participated in video production.
He recently produced his first solo music album.

and it seems to me that Guadalajara, in spite of its size, does not have enough
options in that respect."

Tragaluz Magazine
Tragaluz ("Skylight") was created in 2002 as a joint project of nine women passionate about culture.
It is an eclectic magazine about cultural entertainment and is distributed throughout Mexico.
It is directed by Carmen Villoro and has a diverse staff that includes elements of Jalisco's
artistic and intellectual community.
